Eye on the Sky

I have a teeny crush on Mark Breen. If you too are a VPR junkie you probably know the dulcet tones of Mr. “Eye on the Sky”. Maybe “crush” is the wrong word, but I love the fact that whether he is talking about hailstorms and floods and ice dams, or perfect blue skies and warm breezes, his inflection is always pitch perfect, matter of fact cheerfulness. The other day when it was 65. (Or maybe 25, I don’t remember) he was talking about the path of Spring, the transition into Summer, being a “winding, twisted path” as opposed to a straight one. He didn’t sound particularly ruffled by this analogy. Just sayin it like it was. It’s somehow reassuring, as in, yes, things are going to be rocky and unpredictable, beautiful and then wretched, but it’s ok. We’ll get where we want to go eventually. His is a voice of reason and modulation in a world of voices pitched to lure us toward the tantalizing shores of despair. But Mark Breen? Not having it. It’s all just part of the process and that is a philosophy I aspire to, even if I tend, in my darker moments, to feverish, nail shredding anxiety. He calms me right down.
So. Yoga.
Yoga too re-sets my “it’s all good” button, but not by making me blind to the issues. If I start to gnash teeth over things like my kid’s college prospects, or the health of my aging parents, or the property tax bill, I can either a) turn on VPR and hope Mr EOTS can soothe my panic or b) unroll my mat, and see what happens. I usually remember that b) is a more effective technique. The challenges don’t magically vanish (sometimes I wish they would. Especially that property tax one), but after a good yoga practice, I just feel all Mark-Breen about it. It’s going to be ok.

We have some cool things happening in May!
Our first of the monthly series of FREE, Community Classes happens May 2.
Megan Howe begins a NEW SUNDAY MORNING class, 11:15-12:30.

As we do meander our way toward the magical month called “JUNE” I will be watching attendance and adjusting the summer schedule to cancel classes with low attendance. How do you save an endangered class? Show up!
