UVY Turns 23!

As we slip through these last few weeks of Summer, its exquisite tinge of coolness against the backdrop of glorious sunshine and sounds of schools humming back to life, I marvel. I marvel every year that here we are, 23 years in, and somehow, still here. I've said pretty much every year: the only reason I can do what I do, and keep our doors open, and welcome new teachers and students into our community, is because of you. No students equals no studio, so Thank You.

Teaching yoga is a labor of love. Though it doesn't fully sustain any of us financially, it more importantly nourishes our deepest sense of humanity, sustaining our sense of belonging—belonging in this world, this time, this body. It helps us as teachers, as I hope it does students, deeply connect to our own sense of presence. As my teacher says (and some of you've been hearing me say it lately): The most powerful thing in the room is not the pose, but the attention behind the pose. What is most potent and remarkable in any gathering of students, is not virtuosity in a pose, but your willingness to stay, feel, and go a little deeper without forcing anything.
This is the practice we keep returning to, not because it makes us more flexible or stronger, though it does that too, but because it makes us more awake, more present, and more ourselves.
Thank you for showing up with us, for 23 years. On we go!
