Embracing the Darkness; the Power of Rest

As we move into the final lap of the year, the natural world downshifts. Days darken, air cools, and nature prepares to rest. This darkening period invites us to do the same—to slow down, reflect, and honor the need for rest.

The cycles of nature mirror our own. Plants retreat into the earth to conserve energy; we too benefit from taking time to pause and slow and reflect. The busyness of summer fades away, the arrival of fall and winter offers a natural opportunity to turn inward, embrace stillness, and gather strength for the seasons ahead.

If we embrace this powering down—not with fear or hesitation, but with a sense of peace and curiosity, we can experience greater balance within our lives. As the world quiets down, we are given the space to breathe, reflect, and prepare for the light that will return in the spring. This time of rest is not a luxury, but a necessity for our health and well-being.

The studio offers many ways to practice slowing, nurturing and turning inward. In Thetford, the Monday morning classes incorporates SATYA (somatic awareness training for yoga awareness), the Tuesday evening gentle class is mostly candlelit and quiet, incorporating restorative poses throughout. The gentle class on Friday morning in WRJ helps guide practitioners into a place of calm to carry you through the weekend, and Caleigh's monthly Gentle+Restorative class is a lovely, nurturing gift to give yourself mid weekend, to sustain you through the week ahead and beyond. Scroll down to sign up for Caleigh's class this Saturday; space is limited to allow for ample prop use.

All are welcome to these sweet, slow practices, which inherently honor both the seasonal shift in the natural world, and the seasonal shifts within, and which gently open the door to deepened awareness of self and community.
