Our two newest instructors, Laura and Sue, are teaming up to teach—in rotation—UVY’s new class: “Foundations: Yoga for Beginners”, Sundays, 11–12:15. This ongoing class will replace our 6-week Intro series. As with all other classes, please be sure to sign up on our schedule page to ensure your space in the class.

I’m so excited to welcome both of these amazing women, who— though very different—share a depth of understanding that shines through in their practice, and a quality of watchful compassion that makes them the best kind of teachers.

Laura Foley:

“I’ve been practicing yoga for nine years, after a karate injury (broken toes from kicking a black belt!) made me look for something a little gentler. I’ve studied lots with Leslie and Sharon at Upper Valley Yoga, also with Jill Johnson, Deb Neubauer, John Friend, Maeghan Finnegan, numerous other wonderful teachers, and I’ve just completed a 200 hour YTT with Michele George and Kellie Finn. I’m also ordained as a Zen lay practitioner, and practice volunteer chaplaincy at DHMC. My interest in yoga is finding the quiet, relaxed place in the middle of movement, and to tap into that stillness when off the mat. I love how yoga grounds us in the body, and how the body and breath help us to connect to the deeper, creative places. I’m also an award-winning poet, author of three books, and am working on a selection of mindfulness poems. I live with my partner and our three big dogs on a woody hill in Pomfret Vermont.”

Sue Howard

I came to yoga ten plus years ago as simply a way to warm up my muscles before dance and to stretch after my long physical days, studying primarily with Michele George, (completing her teaching training in the spring of 2014), Leslie Carleton and Deb Neubauer. My practice has evolved to become part of my everyday and I continue to find myself journeying deeper – exploring various forms, meditation, Ayurveda, and philosophy. It is a full and fascinating world. Coming to my mat settles my mind, challenges my body, opens my heart and allows me to move forward into the world a little more centered. That is what I hope for my students. Classes thoughtfully combine proper body alignment and attention to the breath with the pure joy of moving.
